Are you looking for the best backpack diaper bag for you and your baby? Look no further! The Itzy Ritzy diaper bag is one I would recommend to any new mom looking for a comfortable, functional, and cute diaper bag!
One thing I knew with baby #2, was that I was going to find a better diaper bag! With Fitz, I used a big tote bag. At the time, I wanted to avoid backpacks, because I couldn’t find any that looked cute or fashionable.
But that was five years ago! So this time around, I was glad to find the Itzy Ritzy backpack diaper bag- it is SO much better than what I used with Fitz! Plus, I get compliments on it all the time, and other moms are always asking me about my diaper bag.
I actually bought the Itzy Ritzy backpack diaper bag in two different styles: a smaller one, called the mini, in taupe. For me, it’s the perfect size for every day use.
The regular sized bag is perfect for taking to babysitters and on longer outings or day trips (like the zoo, etc.)

My husband gave me such a hard time for getting TWO diaper bags, but we have used both so much that he totally gets it now. 🙂
It’s time to share why I think the Itzy Ritzy is the best backpack diaper bag!
Why I didn’t like my first diaper bag
Why didn’t I like the large tote diaper bag? There are a few reasons:
- They are so hard to carry with a baby in tow! Backpack keep your hands free with a baby. Enough said.
- I constantly had shoulder and back pain because of how I had to carry such a heavy bag on my shoulders.
- They don’t often provide easy to access pockets, so it was hard to organize and find anything.
Why I love my Itzy Ritzy Backpack Diaper Bag
1. Easier to carry because it’s handsfree
The backpack style leaves me free to carry and deal with the baby. This is the #1 reason why I would tell any new mom to get a backpack diaper bag from the start! I mean, you are dragging this bag around with your EVERYWHERE. And you’ve obviously got to carry that baby around also!
I can’t tell you how many times I dropped my tote or spilled it’s contents because I was managing carrying the bag and the baby. That’s just no fun!
2. It is comfortable: No more shoulder pain!
Using a backpack means you’re not going to have as much shoulder and back strain! This is a big issue for me, because I already struggle with this with a newborn.
The shoulder straps on the Itzy Ritzy are both perfect for their size. The larger style has wider, cushioned straps and I have been so pleased with how comfortable it is to wear. Even when it’s packed full and I’m wearing it for hours at a time!
3. It is more functional
I have found that backpack diaper bags have better functionality. It just seems easier to organize the pockets and find things. The Itzy Ritzy backpacks have the two pockets on the side that are so convenient for bottles, your phone, or your keys. You don’t get this feature with a tote bag!
4. The unique zipper feature
My FAVORITE feature is the way the Zipper goes down so far. You can actually lay it down and open it almost like a suitcase, making it SO easy to find anything!
Take a look at how both the small and the large version have this feature. You can also see all the handy inside pouches!
5. It’s cute and fashionable
Okay, moms, we know this is important, right?! Other moms tell me all the time that my diaper bag doesn’t even look like a diaper bag. The smaller one is just so cute and perfect for daily use. I love the neutral color that makes it look great with any outfit.
I’m honestly going to be hard pressed to not keep using my Itzy Ritzy diaper bag long after Coco needs it because it will be such a great backpack purse also!
