Today I’m sharing another week of summer learning at home activities! You can find the first week in this blog series here.
If you’re like us, it can be so easy to just lay around and be lazy in the summer. Too much TV and video games for the kids, and some days just don’t have a lot of direction! Since I’m a teacher by nature and trade, I like to do something little every day (okay, on most days!) to keep Fitz learning and to be productive. It is sometimes just as simple as going to the library, playing a game, or it is a short learning activity. Check out week 2 of our summer learning at home activities!
Summer Learning At Home Week 2
Monday: Library Day
Mom tip: head to a different library than you normally do so your kids can enjoy a different kid area. Fitz always loves it when we do this! This week we are getting books all about baseball! Check out our list of favorite baseball picture books HERE.
Tuesday: Ball Sort and Count
Collect, sort, and count all the balls you have in your house. Fitz loved doing this! After discussing what it means to sort items, Fitz came up with so many sorting categories: size, color, hard/soft, indoor/outdoor, and type of sport. So easy and fun!
Wednesday: Spelling Baseball
Word work and spelling practice is way more fun and meaningful when it’s interactive! First, I wrote the word “Baseball” on chart paper. Then I pulled out pom-poms, pipe cleaners, playdough and paint and let Fitz explore! This kept him entertained for close to an hour, which is a mom win in my book!
Thursday: Rainbow Roll
This is a great STEM challenge that focuses on simple force and motion concepts. Have your child roll balls different distances on rainbow colored paper. Fitz and I took turns giving each other a little challenge like: Can you roll the ball so it lands on the purple paper? We talked about how different types of balls and the amount of force affected the motion!
Friday: Game Day
Go outside and play baseball! Fitz is on a little baseball team that’s starting up in a couple of weeks so I thought we would take our game day to practice baseball and talk about the rules to get him prepped and ready to go!
